When the coolant temperature drops below freezing, the cooling water solidifies and expands, causing blockages or ruptures in the cooling system. This can damage internal components and optical parts of the laser, and in severe cases, render the laser completely inoperable. Therefore, effective antifreeze measures are essential for laser equipment during winter.

What are the operating temperature requirements for laser equipment in winter?

The working environment temperature for the laser should be maintained around 22°C. For the chiller, set the low-temperature water between 20-24°C and the high-temperature water between 28-30°C. Before operating the laser, let the chiller run for at least 20 minutes to ensure the actual water temperature matches the set temperature.

What are common methods for laser equipment antifreeze?
Method 1: Keep the chiller running (depending on local temperatures)
If power interruptions can be avoided, do not turn off the chiller. This ensures that the coolant remains in a circulating state. However, in extremely cold conditions, even flowing water can freeze.
Method 2: Drain the coolant (for long periods of inactivity)
This method is ideal when the equipment will not be used for an extended period, such as during holidays. Detach the chiller’s low-temperature and normal-temperature outlet pipes. Use clean air to blow through the low-temperature and normal-temperature outlets of the chiller to drain the coolant from the chiller, laser, and cutting head pipelines. Open the drainage port to completely empty the coolant from the chiller’s tank, ensuring no liquid remains to prevent freezing-related damage.

Method 3: Add antifreeze to the coolant (for areas with unstable power supply)
If the ambient temperature drops below freezing and power outages occur frequently, making it difficult to drain the coolant daily, antifreeze must be used. We recommend using a chiller antifreeze brand such as Clariant (USA). Do not directly pour antifreeze into the chiller. Instead, mix it with distilled or deionized water at a ratio of 3:7 (3 parts antifreeze to 7 parts water) before adding it to the chiller. This prevents corrosion of the pipelines. After adding antifreeze, the coolant can withstand temperatures as low as -15°C. Ensure the chiller operates above 5°C, and cold starts require a minimum temperature of 10°C.
Method 4: Maintain ambient temperature

If possible, use heating equipment to keep the working environment above 0°C. An ambient temperature of around 5°C is recommended for optimal protection.

  • Antifreeze cannot completely replace distilled or deionized water. It is not recommended for year-round use.

Sichuan  Elevator Manufacturing Co., Ltd. focuses on the installation of elevators in existing buildings. The company continuously innovates and integrates the internet into elevator technology—achieving automatic payment for elevator usage fees via “ETC” smart systems, enabling early detection of elevator malfunctions and timely elimination of safety risks during usage. Additionally, Dsk has standardized the production of external steel structure components, including powder coating processes and on-site bolt connections without the need for external scaffolding, addressing challenges such as long construction periods, significant safety risks, and high labor costs, thus reducing safety hazards.

Client Needs

Sichuan Dsk Elevator is a long-term partner of Deratech. In recent years, Deratech has provided the company with multiple CNC machines. In early 2023, due to a sharp increase in orders, the capacity of traditional manual bending could no longer meet production demands. Learning that Deratech had successful cases of robotic bending in related industries, Dsk sought to use Deratech’s robotic bending unit to solve their sheet metal bending capacity issue. Upon receiving Dsk’s request, Deratech’s technical research team designed a multi-purpose gripper fixture to address the challenge of adapting a single gripper to multiple workpieces, and customized a robotic bending unit tailored to the customer’s needs, which was quickly delivered and put into operation.

 

The robotic bending unit from Deratech has been in use for over a year, significantly reducing the labor intensity of workers, saving labor costs, and increasing production capacity, with zero equipment failure. In October 2024, coinciding with the customer’s product upgrade and capacity expansion, Dsk once again partnered with Deratech and repurchased a robotic bending unit.

 

Solution

Deratech customized a centering upper and lower loading platform, gravity-centering table, and robot gripper to meet the specific process requirements of Dsk Elevator’s products. The bending machine uses Deratech’s TAM-S series high-precision bending machine, equipped with the latest Switzerland Cycelec CT12 system. This unit can automatically complete the entire process from raw material to finished bent product. Workers only need to supply the sheet material to the loading table and remove the stacked finished products from the unloading table. Additionally, the bending unit is integrated into the client’s production management system for easier production tracking and management.

After quick installation, debugging, training, and acceptance, Deratech’s robotic bending unit was put into production. This not only disrupts the press brake’s normal operation but also poses serious challenges to machining accuracy and equipment stability.

 

Relying on profound technical expertise and relentless exploration, the Deratech R&D team has ingeniously developed a next-generation large-tonnage electric servo CNC press brake equipped with an independent screw-driven guidance system. This innovative design effectively prevents throat deformation of the side panels from interfering with the screw transmission, acting as a robust defense for the system. During operation, regardless of throat deformation, the screw maintains precise and stable transmission, ensuring high accuracy for every bending operation.

 

 

After over a year of rigorous testing and use at customer sites, this press brake has successfully entered mass production, with its reliability and stability thoroughly validated. Recently, an EPP-160/3200 press brake, equipped with a Cybelec VP88 CNC system, was delivered to a customer in Dalian, Liaoning Province.
